DURANT - Saturday is a special day for youngsters at Southeastern.

Interim Athletics Director Dr. Jeff Hale said, "Southeastern's 'Take a Kid to the Game' day promises to be fun and exciting for kids of all ages. We want children, parents and families in southeastern Oklahoma to visit campus often and experience the excitement of Southeastern athletics."

Southeastern is hosting Northeastern at 2 p.m. Saturday and the kids will get a head start with activities starting at 1:30. All Bryan County youngsters 14 and under are invited to be guests of the university. Late arrivals run the risk of missing out on some events.

All youngsters wearing uniform shirts or spirit shirts from their respective schools or sports will be admitted free when accompanied by parents.

Parents also get a break with half-price admission ($3) when they bring a younster to the game.

The focus is strictly on the kids. There will be drawings, giveaways and autograph sessions and kids will be allowed to run through the tunnel before the game starts.

The SOSU cheerleaders and band will be involved with the youngsters and there will also be a Punt, Pass and Kick contest at halftime.

There will be a party zone, a kids' zone and the entire field will be a fun zone for kids of all ages. Prizes will be donated by Wal-Mart and Salita's.

Party Zone winners will be selected and will dine on Taco Casa's gourmet tacos and burritos.

Hale said, "Our goal is to build important community relations and we feel this is a fun way to get started. We've sent invitations to all county schools and youngsters 14 and under are encouraged to participate."
