DURANT - A motel owner opposed to a November ballot for a five-percent motel tax read a statement during a county commissioners meeting asking the commissioners many questions regarding use of the funds from the quarter-cent sales tax and the jail-renovation projects.
Charles Calhoun, owner of the Budget Inn, told commissioners the county has grown and sales tax revenues have increased. He said commissioners have misused tax dollars by not properly planning for the remodeling of the jail which cost more than anticipated.
