DURANT - There has been a lot of dust in the air just south of Durant on SH 78. The big earth movers have been grading fields and parking areas at the Multi Sports Complex site and some of the fields are beginning to take shape (albeit with a little imagination). The crews are currently putting down the gravel on the roads and parking areas. More infrastructure will be completed after that. The schedule calls for completion of the project on Aug. 29, 2006.

Overall, the first phase of the Sports Complex has a construction cost of $7.2 million and will consist of the following:

Four softball fields are included with the main field have seating capacity of 350, two of the fields with seating capacity of 300 and one of the fields with a capacity of 100. One of the final jobs on the schedule is to sod the fields. This will allow future high school tournaments to take place all at one location.
