CALERA - A Calera woman is in critical condition after her car was struck by a semi truck early Thursday afternoon.

Calera Police Lt. Donnie Hyde said Cynthia Guyer, 43, was eastbound from a service road about 12:30 when she drove into the path of a southbound semi.

Her vehicle was struck in the driver side and her foot remained on the gas pedal causing the car to turn in circles before ending up in the parking lot of a vacant convenience store It then struck a parked car and ended up in a ditch, according to Hyde.

Guyer was flown from the scene by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

The truck driver was not injured.
