DURANT - Three people have been charged with first-degree burglary for allegedly breaking into an occupied apartment at Crescent Creek Apartments to look for stolen property.

Charged were: Jeffrey Cordell Stampley Jr., 23, Jason Carl Stampley, 20, and Clinton Wayne Baker, 22.

They were arrested early Saturday morning after police received a call about several men breaking into an apartment. Lt. Andy Navid stopped the vehicle the suspects were in and all three were arrested.

A pistol was found on the center console of the vehicle, according to police. The victim, Jolene Johnson, 22, told Patrolman Shane Walker that one of the men approached her outside, grabbed her, and accused her of stealing.

She then ran to her apartment, and the suspect kicked the door open and pointed a gun to her head, she told police. Shena Kelley heard the commotion and she said four men entered the breezeway and one of them pointed a gun at her, the report stated.

One of the men said, “There's nothing here, let's get out of here,” according to the report.

The suspects then left in a vehicle and were captured by Navid. According to Walker's report, the Stampley brothers were looking for property that had been stolen from Jason Stampley's apartment.

Baker claimed he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, according to police. It was not known who stole items from Jason Stampley.
