The costume contest will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the First Texoma National Bank Parking Garage at Fourth and Main. The contest will be divided into age groups. Ages are 0-1, 2-3, 4-6, and 7-12. Prizes will be awarded for each age group.
For safety and traffic flow, participants gathering candy can start at the corner of Fourth and Main. Last year, lines began to form early. While waiting to begin, Granger Photography will be taking photographs for $3 of youngsters who are dressed up. The photos will begin at 4:30 p.m. inside the parking garage.
Another starting point is Newman's Furniture at the corner of Second and Evergreen. A siren will sound at 5:30 to signify the beginning of the event. There is plenty of public parking at Farmer's Market Parking Lot, First and Evergreen, and the Lost Street parking Lot, between Second and Third just south of Main on Lost Street.
Abiding by the designated route will also be safer for children as they will cross the street only at designated locations. The Durant Kiwanis Club will assist the Police Reserve Unit with traffic control.
As an additional safety measure, children are asked to take candy only from those wearing the official participant sticker. The people wearing this matching sticker have signed up ahead of time and are authorized participants.
Youngsters going by the Main Street office will not only receive candy, they will be given free tickets to the street carnival coming up on Saturday, Nov. 4. The eighth annual street carnival raises funds for the Shopping Spree Giveaway set to begin Nov. 6.
The Street Carnival will be from 5-8 p.m. on Farmer's Market at First and Evergreen. Organizers have set fundraising goals in hopes of being able to increase the amount distributed during the Shopping Spree Giveaway from Nov. 6 until Dec.14.
Carnival events will include a petting zoo, feel factor games, a basketball shooting contest, clowns, balloons, hot dogs, soft drinks, cakewalk, bingo, hay ride, dunking booth, inflatable obstacle course and more.
