On Saturday, Dec. 2, the third annual Downtown Holiday will feature a special Oklahoma Centennial twist. While businesses in downtown Durant provide strolling and shopping activities for the entire family, people can also enjoy entertainment on Market Square.
A special ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. to celebrate the completion of Market Square Streetscape. This is Durant's Centennial project, and everyone is encouraged to join the fun on this historic occasion.
A special tribute will be given to Oklahoma's centennial celebration to begin the day. Speakers will explain how the downtown, the railroad, Southeastern, and the Choctaw heritage came to play an important part in our early days.
The ceremony will feature the unveiling of an attempt to capture the community's history. With the installation of dedication and engraved pavers, visitors can take a walk down memory lane.
Entertainment will continue throughout the day with choirs, magicians, bands, cheerleaders and more sharing their talents. This will demonstrate the rich gifts of local residents of all ages (from a Boswell kindergarten class to the senior adult choir from First Baptist Church).
Durantopoly is another way of bringing history into the picture. Although a fundraiser for Durant Main Street, the businesses sponsoring the board game are making a statement they are a part of today's business climate. They are on sale for only $20.
A special version of Durantopoly will be played by those attending festivities on Dec. 2. Special gifts, games, and discounts will be distributed throughout the day to winners.
“I Remember When” is available at The Three Valley Museum. They are open during the Downtown Holiday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The Three Valley Museum will be a stop on the historic downtown walking tour that will be given at noon, 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. It begins on Market Square at the Caf
