Caney man suffers serious injuries in Thursday accident

A Caney man was seriously injured Thursday after the pickup he was riding in was struck from behind by a semi truck in Atoka County

Sam J. Rose, 41, was taken to the Durant hospital and later flown to OU Medical Center, Oklahoma City, where he is in serious condition, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Rose was a passenger in a pickup driven by Janes Nelson Fincher, 33, Caney. According to the patrol, Nelson failed to yield when he turned from a county road onto Highway 69/75, the patrol said, and his pickup was rearended by a semi truck driven by Ted Andrew Piatek, 55, Locust Grove.

Fencher and Piatek were not injured. All occupants except Rose wore seat belts, according to Trooper Mitchell Patten's report.
