Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at Coffey-Murray Chapel, for Shelby Skidmore, 56, Cartwright, who passed away Friday March 16, 2007 at his residence due to complications of exposure to Agent Orange. Rev. Ray Early will officiate.

He was born on Tuesday, July 18, 1950, in Platter to Juanita Pittman. A house painter, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cartwright, loved OU football, motorcycling and fishing. He was also a member of the OU Football Touchdown club. He enjoyed attending the Cowboy Church in Denison. The brightest spot in his life was becoming a Christian. He proudly served in the Navy, Marines and the Army to protect the country that he loved.

He was preceded by his mother; sister Pearl; brother Roger Skidmore; niece Kimberly Shortridge; nephew Jordan Jones and step-father Fred Pittman.

He is survived by his wife Betty of the home; step daughters O.J. Parker, Carol Condor and Nickie Grant, all of Cartwright; brothers Sid Skidmore and wife Sue, Breckenridge, Texas; Herbert Skidmore and wife Cheryl, Norman, Fred Pittman and wife Cindy, and Gilbert Pittman and wife Sandy, all of Oklahoma City, T.G. Skidmore and wife Lois, Lexington, Texas, and Bill Skidmore and wife Brenda, Mt. Sterling, Kan.; sisters Anita Jones, Durant, Kaye and husband Jon Aeiker, Mobile, Ala. and 17 nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place following the service at Calera Rosehill cemetery with Timmy Babbitt, Johnny McDonald, Larry Blondell, Randy Foster, Earl Davis , John Baucom, Vernon Jones and Donnie Watts will serve as pallbearers.

Family hour will be held at 5-6 p.m., today at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
