Monday night Charlotte Hamil won the National Sand Bass Talent Search contest, allowing her to open at 8 p.m. Saturday for Buddy Jewel in Madill.

Hamil, a life-long resident of Durant, will be singing “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall.

“I put a little bit of a country twist on it and seems to be a crowd pleasing song.”

“When I heard them start to say Charlotte, I knew I had won,” Hamil said. “I was ecstatic. It was a tough competition.”

“I've been singing my entire life,” Hamil said. “I really put myself into the song; it's a release for me.”

Hamil is currently working on original songs for a demo with Producer Boyd Newton of Wild Horse Records.

“I've been trying to pursue a professional career the past couple of years in country music.”

Hamil auditioned for American Idol in San Antonia last year and plans to audition for Nashville Star during the summer.

Also, she has been involved with the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival cast for 13 years.
