A Wapanucka boy is in critical condition after he was hit while riding his bicycle late Thursday afternoon eight miles west of Caney in Atoka County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jacob Harrington, 8, pedaled his bicycle from a private drive out into the road and into the path of a pickup driven by Teddy J. Griffith, 57, Coleman.

Harrington was knocked 54 feet, the patrol said. He was taken to Children's Hospital, Dallas, Texas, and is in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal injuries.

Griffith was not injured.

Trooper Steve Payne investigated.

In other accidents, a truck driver who lost control of his rig early Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 69/75 south of Calera is in good condition at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas.

According to the patrol, David Cochran, 59, Pocola, was northbound in his tractor-trailer rig when he drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and overturned one-quarter time.

Both of the northbound lanes were blocked until authorities could remove the wreckage. Trooper James Reinecker investigated.
