Drug use was a factor in a crash Sunday evening on Boat Club Road in Cartwright that seriously injured four people, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Anthony Paul Owens, 22, Plano, Texas, was westbound at approximately 7:15 when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove his Oldsmobile through a fence and plowed into a tree.

Owens was pinned in the vehicle before being freed by Colbert firefighters. According to the patrol, Owens was airlifted to Parkland Hospital, Dallas, Texas, where he is in critical condition.

Three passengers were also injured. Kerri D. Kelley, 24, Waxahachie, Texas, was taken to Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas, and is in serious condition. Christopher J. Belt, 16, and Victoria D. York, 16, both of Bonham, Texas, are listed in fair condition at TMC, the patrol said.

Illegal drug use by Owens and unsafe speed were cited in Trooper Kyle Ince's report as the causes of the crash. No one was wearing seat belts.

In other crashes, Mary Lillian Dancer, 79, Boswell, was killed in a crash Saturday morning 1.5 miles east of Boswell. According to the patrol, Dancer was eastbound in the center of the road when she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle.

Her car traveled north off the roadway and rolled two times. Dancer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected approximately 30 feet, according to Trooper Deron Brown's report.
