The Southeastern Rodeo Team competed at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford this past weekend. It was a tough weekend, many of the Savage Storm members came home early before the short-round held on Saturday night.

A pair of native Oklahomans, Clint Carpenter and J.W. Hale, took home the championship in the Team Roping Event. The team won the long round with a 6.2 second run. The team later placed second in the short-round with a time of 7.9 seconds to win the average title. Southeastern’s Men’s team is still looking strong in the team roping event.

SOSU’s Kyle Linaweaver still continues to lead the point standings for the Central Plains Region in the heading, and Ryan Von Ahn is placing third. In the Heeling standings Southeastern’s Trevor Connolly is placing second.

Cole Bailey of Okmulgee tied for a win in the first round with a fast time of 9.9 seconds. Cole had some trouble in the short-round breaking the barrier, which took him out of the average race. Cole’s placing was good enough to move him to the lead in the Central Plains Region in the calf roping.

Audra Helms of Eufaula qualified for the short-round, finishing second in the short-round with a time of 16.21 seconds which tied her for third in the average. Southeastern’s Robin Webb continues to lead the Barrel Racing standings, with teammate Rashell Hays sitting third.

Torrie Mullins of Hugo tied for a win in the first-round with a time of 8.7 seconds in the Goat Tying Event. The cowgirl had an 8.8 second time in the short-round to tie her for the win in the average. Kelli Smith of SOSU continues to lead the goat tying standings in the Central Plains Region.

Following a rather humbling weekend, the team is looking forward to dominating their next rodeo held in Hays, Kan., April 18–20, 2008. The Southeastern women’s team has nearly wrapped up the Central Plains title, but the Southeastern Men’s team is in a heated battle to slip into one of the top two spots in the region. They are currently third, with the top two teams in the region qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo.

They will end the rodeo season here in Durant, hosting the Southeastern Stampede at the Durant Round-Up Club Arena on April 24-26, 2008. Rodeo time is 7 p.m. each evening, and tickets can be purchased at the gate.

They will also be hosting barrel racing, calf roping, and breakaway jackpots in the morning of April 24 at the Durant Round-Up Club Arena; and a team roping jackpot on Sunday, April 27 at Wayne Carter’s Crossfire Arena in Calera.
