DURANT — A Mead man has been hit with burglary charges after being arrested by Carter County authorities and admitting to committing burglaries in Durant, court papers state.

Andrew Michael Ramey, 21, was charged Monday with three counts of second-degree burglary.

He is accused of burglarizing Krieger Optometry, Unity Hospice and Brantley Flowers & Gifts. All of the burglaries occurred on April 7, according to court papers.

According to a probable-cause affidavit by Durant Police Sgt. Chris Marcy, a window was broken to gain entry to Krieger’s. Cash was stolen during that burglary. Also that morning, Unity Hospice was burglarized and police found a shoe print that matched the one at Krieger’s. Brantley Flowers was also burglarized. Nothing was reported missing from those burglaries although offices had been rummaged through.

On April 17, Carter County Sheriff’s Detective Matthew Dunn called Sgt. Marcy and advised that Ramey had been arrested on burglary charges there. The affidavit states that Ramey confessed to the three Durant burglaries.

Marcy went to Carter County the following day to question Ramey. According to the affidavit, Ramey said he broke into the businesses because he was looking for money to buy methamphetamine.

Ramey has a prior conviction in Johnston County for second-degree burglary, according to court records.

In other crime news, Allen Golden told Deputy Anthony Scavo on Monday that a magazine for a Glock pistol and a taser cartridge were stolen out of his vehicle that was parked in the 200 block of Willafa Woods Road.

An Army Corps of Engineers Ranger found a pickup last week that had been driven into Lake Texoma at the Lakeside primitive area. According to a report by Undersheriff Ken Golden, the pickup was in approximately 40 feet from the shore and all of the windows had been smashed.
