Kevin Carl Seymour, 48, was charged Wednesday with possession of child pornography, plus misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting an officer.
He was arrested early Tuesday morning after officers responded to a burglar alarm at Jerry’s Drive-thru, 1300, N. First Ave.
According to a report by Patrolman Jason Hathcoat, a window at the store was broken out. Hathcoat went across the street to Love’s to see if a store clerk had seen anyone.
Hathcoat then noticed a pickup in front of Bremar’s Variety Depot. The vehicle was running and a man was in the driver’s seat, according to the report, and Hathcoat approached the vehicle to talk to the man.
The man, identified as Seymour, did not see Hathcoat approaching, the report stated, and Hathcoat saw that the man was using a laptop computer on a wireless Internet connection.
Hathcoat saw him open a picture that showed a nude girl who appeared to be approximately 10 years old, according to the report, and he then enlarged it.
Hathcoat believed Seymour was attempting to save the picture on the computer. The officer then opened the door and told Seymour to exit the vehicle. According to the report, Seymour resisted, but Hathcoat brought him to the ground and cuffed him.
Seymour, the report stated, admitted to having a child pornography problem and when asked if he had more child pornography on the computer, said, “Yes, there is all kinds of (stuff) on there.”
According to police, he said he has had a “pornography problem” his entire life. Also, he claimed child pornography “appeared” on his computer one day and he liked it so much, he continued to look at it.
Hathcoat also found a .22-caliber pistol and several kinds of ammunition in the pickup, according to the report.
