DURANT — Two people were charged Tuesday in separate police pursuits.
Henry Bryan Heskett, 36, Denison, Texas, was charged with running a roadblock, plus misdemeanor charges of attempting to elude police, DUI and driving without a license.
Taffy Lenett Wallace, 27, Durant, was charged with felony attempting to elude.
Heskett was captured Monday evening after police responded to a call about a man beating a woman in the parking lot of the Boulder Motel.
When Patrolman Brandon Laxton arrived, a man in a Ford Explorer later identified as Heskett, drove off, according to police.
Patrolman Bryan Moore parked his patrol car in an alley to block the Explorer, but Moore backed up because Heskett’s Explorer was going strike the patrol car, according to a report by Laxton.
Heskett, the report stated, drove through the Briarwood Center parking lot and bailed out at the Stage Store, before being captured hiding in a nearby patch of weeds.
The report stated that the woman denied that Heskett had hit her, although several people called police about the assault.
Wallace was arrested last week after police were dispatched to First United Bank about women trying to pass stolen checks. According to police, a pursuit began when an officer arrived and the chase ended at 11th and Texas Street after Wallace struck a house and plowed through a fence. A passenger was also arrested at the scene.
Wallace was originally charged last week with a misdemeanor but the charge was upgraded this week to a felony.
In other crime news, Michael Hinkle told Patrolman Tim McEachern earlier this month that $6,594.73 worth of property had been stolen from his storage unit at A & A Storage, 4415 W. Main St.
According to the report, a lock had been cut to gain entry. Numerous items, including a mattress, computer, home theater system and furniture, were stolen.
Sgt. Joe Clark investigated an automobile burglary Tuesday in the 1200 block of West Main Street. According to the report, Michael Burd’s Nissan Sentra was for sale and someone broke a window to steal a CD player. Loss, counting damage, was estimated at $225.
