A Boswell man was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, after a Thursday crash 1.5 miles east of Durant on Highway 70.

Jackie Martin, 36, is in serious condition with head and internal trunk injuries, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. He was a passenger in a Buick driven by Ronnie Lee Summerville Jr., 26, Boswell.

According to the patrol, the crash happened at 6:05 a.m. when a pickup driven by Jeremy Lance McKee, 19, Boswell, rearended Summerville’s car that was stopped to make a left turn.

Summerville was taken to the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma where he was listed in fair condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

Another passenger in Summerville’s car, Daniel Deaton, 22, Boswell, was taken to MCSO for observation, although he had no apparent injuries, according to the patrol.

McKee was not injured.

It was foggy at the time of the crash and McKee driving too fast for the conditions was cited in Trooper Trey Harbin’s report as the cause of the crash.

All occupants, except Martin, wore seat belts, the report stated.

In other emergency calls, firefighters were dispatched at 1:56 p.m. Thursday to the Choctaw Towers on the Southeastern campus after smoke was observed coming from a second-floor window. The smoke was caused by an air conditioning motor that overheated. SE maintenance removed the air conditioner and firefighters used a fan to ventilate the room.
