DURANT — Firefighters put out a garage fire at 1819 W. Evergreen Street.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11:51 p.m. Tuesday after someone saw smoke coming from the garage. When firefighters arrived three minutes later, they found the garage door open and smoke billowing out.

They hosed down the fire and contacted City Fire Marshal Lisa Jackson to investigate the cause. The damage was contained to the garage.

The house was occupied by Susan Gentry, according to the fire department.

In other emergency incidents, authorities responded at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday to a crash at Highway 78 at 69/75 near Durant Cycle.

A tractor-trailer rig was involved in the crash, according to a police dispatch log, and one person was flown from the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Diesel fuel spilled onto the median and the State Department of Environmental Quality cleaned up the spill. Durant firefighters assisted.

Additional details were not available because a Durant Police report had not been completed at press time this morning.
