Southeastern softball will host Oklahoma Panhandle State University Sunday.

It’s a twinbill starting at 11 a.m. since the Lady Aggies will have a long trip home.

Speaking of long trips home, the LadyStorm left town early this morning to play a doubledip at Abilene Christian, a Lone Star Conference South opponent.

From there, the long Texas road leads to Odessa for Friday’s doubleheader against the University of Texas-Permian Basin.

From there, the longer Texas road leads back home for Sunday’s date with Panhandle.

It’s 272 miles from here to Abilene. Don’t know about Abilene to Odessa. It’s 444 miles from Odessa to Durant.

Sunday’s opener starts at 11 a.m. Why not eat lunch after church and come on out for the second game?

COACH RON Faubion’s club is 14-7 after a swing through Arkansas and Missouri last weekend.

The 4-3 record could have been better, but it could have been a darn sight worse.

Southeastern found it could play with some very good teams and could also be its own worst enemy.

There is some speed this year (Lindsey Lacy’s 13 for 13 stolen bases). There is also power (Christa Johnson’s six home runs and 23 runs batted in).

Southeastern is hitting .356 as a team with 13 home runs, 104 RBIs, 113 runs scored on 193 hits and 33 steals in 41 attempts.

Sam Vrska had the numbers, but Cameron’s Leslie Martini was named LSC-North Hitter of the Week.

COALGATE’S LYNDI Davidson leads the circle crew with a 4-0 record.

Ashley Smith is 4-3, Audra Rhudy and Kelsey Reding are 3-2 each.

Davidson’s 1.79 earned run average leads the team with Smith at 1.91.

ERA can be a funny old duck. A bloop single here or there and one bad pitch can mean a quick trip from the penthouse to the outhouse.

THE LATEST LSC softball standings show SE fourth in the North.

Midwestern is first at 17-1, East Central second at 11-2, Southwestern third at 5-1.

Down South, it’s Angelo State perfect at 17-0, followed by West Texas A&M at 12-1, Incarnate Word 8-4 and Tarleton State at 6-4-1.

MSU is here March 11 and 12 for one game Friday and two Saturday. The new format calls for a 3-game series instead of four.

That makes about as much sense as a lefthanded monkey wrench.

If you must make the trip and spend a night, why the heck not play two games each day?

Please don’t tell me the Scheduling Czar did this to us.
