ODESSA, Texas — Southeastern softball finally looked like Southeastern softball with a 7-2 win over Texas-Permian Basin Friday.

The first game of the twinbill was a nightmare 8-6 defeat after three runs in the top of the first lost to a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning.

The LadyStorm (15-10) will host Oklahoma Panhandle University in a non-conference doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.

Coach Ron Faubion was shaking his head after watching his team drop three of four on the long road swing.

Faubion said, “You’d think we would be past this kind of breakdown, both mental and physical. I thought we might have a chance to win three of four or even sweep if things went well for us.

“Obviously, they didn’t go well. We left 15 runners stranded and gave them too many extra outs. You just can’t do those things and win, especially on the road.

“We have to learn from this and leave it behind us. The only thing we’re concerned with now is Panhandle State today and getting our game back on track.”

Southeastern came out firing with three runs on two hits and two Falcon errors in the top of the first.

Jeana Keyes singled up the middle and stole second. Lindsey Lacy sacrificed her to third, reached safely on a throwing error by the third baseman and stole second.

Sam Vrska’s double drove in two runs before UTPB could get out of the inning.

The Falcons scored once in the bottom of the first and the Storm added a run in the fourth on Katie Campbell’s leadoff homer to left, her first roundtripper of the season.

The hosts picked up two in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder’s choice and back-to-back singles that brought Ashley Smith on in relief of Lyndi Davidson.

Smith allowed three-consecutive singles in the sixth as UTPB knotted the game.

Neither team could score in the eighth on the International Tie Breaker rule and SE took the lead with a run in the ninth.

Cassy Tice started the inning on second base and Courtney Walters moved her over with a sac bunt. Lacy’s infield single made it 5-4, SE.

A sacrifice bunt and single tied it again for the Falcons.

Jennifer Morales lined a double to the gap in left-center to give SE the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th.

A fly to center and sac bunt made it two down for UTPB with a runner on third in the bottom of the 10th. A hit batsman and 3-run homer by the cleanup batter ended the game.

Smith pitched six innings and took the loss to even her record at 4-4.

Lacy led the Storm with two for four, a run scored, a run batted in, a sacrifice and three stolen bases.

Keyes and Vrska were two for five each for SE. Keyes scored a run and stole a pair of bases. Vrska doubled and scored two.

Campbell was one for four with a home run and Morales one for five with a double and one RBI.

Southeastern again scored three in the top of the first, this time on five hits and no errors.

Keyes singled, stole second and scored on Vrska’s double. Morales singled and Vrksa stole home on the double-steal hang-up play. Campbell singled and Audra Rhudy’s base hit up the middle drove in the third run.

UTPB (10-13) scored twice in the second and it seemed a lot like instant replay, except this was the last of the scoring for the hostesses.

The Storm put this one away with a 4-run burst in the sixth.

A walk to Morales, a fielder’s choice that missed, a bunt single to third, an infield out that drove in a run, Courtne St. Claire’s sizzler that the shortstop couldn’t handle and a sac fly did the damage for the LadyStorm.

Rhudy wrapped up her complete-game victory by striking out the first two Falcons in the bottom of the seventh and getting a soft liner to shortstop.

Rhudy scattered eight hits and ran her record to 4-3 with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Vrska and Rhudy were two for three each for SE. Vrksa doubled and drove in a run. Rhudy delivered one RBI.

Lacy and Morales were one for two each for the winners. Keyes, Campbell and St. Claire were one for three apiece.
