Joe Barrett, long time Director of Bryan County EMS, received a big honor Thursday night in Tulsa.

Barrett, who has been serving as Director for 27 years, received Director of the Year award.

“I had no idea they were going to do that. It was an honor,” said Barrett. “I was surprised and honored to receive it.”

Several employees knew, but kept the secret from Barrett to surprise him. Deputy Director, Brian Norton, told Barrett the ambulance service was once again nominated for EMS Service of the Year award, which they won in 2004. Norton and Barrett agreed to attend the award in case they won. That was not the case.

Barrett was surprised to hear his name when Director of the Year award was announced. Even his wife, Carolyn, was a part of the surprise honor.

“She was up there,” said Barrett. “Before I really knew what was going on she was behind me and I was just surprised.”

Congrats Joe,

Well deserved award to a wonderful person. Your natural people skills have come thru again. I know Marvin Layman would be proud of you.
