Sue was an active member of the Durant community. She served as Cub Scout Den Mother for special needs children and was awarded for her service. She served as President of ESA Sorority and enjoyed decorating homes the Christmas Tour of Homes. She was the Co-Chairman of the Annual Durant Chamber of Commerce Banquet Committee for 16 years and continued serving as active participant and planner of the Durant Centennial Pageant. Sue supported L.B. as a Rotary Ann during his 16 years of Service. At Southeastern State College (SEOSU) Sue assisted Howard Starks by serving on the Committee for Human Understanding working with International Students. In later Life Sue and L.B. participated in the University’s Retired Teachers Association. She was also an active member of the Bryan County Republican Party. When not working at Gumm’s Jewelry or All Seasons Travel Sue enjoyed many hobbies. Landscape painting, flower gardening and antique hunting were her favorite pastimes. Her family still enjoys the antique furniture she refinished. In her quiet time Sue enjoyed reading with one of her favorite subjects being United States History and American Presidents and their families. OU Football, the Kentucky Derby and the International Horse Show were never missed when TV viewing was involved. Travel was a very important part of Sue’s life and she loved to share her U.S. and International travels with friends and family. Every summer the family would travel to their cabin at Moose Lake in Wisconsin to boat, read, play games and enjoy lifelong friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Archie and Dorothy Carnahan and her son William Glen Miller (Billy). Sue is survived by her husband Lloyd B. Miller Sr. of the home, Sons, Lloyd B. Miller Jr. (Butch) of Durant and Richard James Miller (Rick) of Oklahoma City, sister-in-law Jean Alves and niece Lynn Campbell of Phoenix, AZ.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Brown’s Funeral Home 4900 W. Hwy 70 in Durant, OK. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery following the service. Those honoring Sue as pallbearers are Tim Briscoe, Kendell (Ken) Kissel, Mike Morris, A.G. (Bucky) Tommie, Jon Martinez and Mark Lucas. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-7 PM.
