SE Women set for GAC road trip

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern basketball will be looking to get back in the win column when it hits the road for a two-game road set beginning on Feb. 9 when it faces Henderson State at 5:30 p.m. in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Savage Storm enter the weekend with a 9-11 record overall and a 5-5 mark in Great American Conference play.

Following the contest against HSU, SE will cross the street for a contest against Ouachita Baptist on Feb. 11, with tip-off at 3 p.m.

These two teams met earlier in the season with the Reddies coming out on top in Bloomer Sullivan Arena on Jan. 12 by a score of 78-64. The loss was the first in GAC play for the Storm.

Jessica Hesse came off the bench in that game to lead SE in scoring with 13 points, while Whitney Coffey and Ashley Hobbs added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Coffey and Ali Stone each pulled down seven boards, while Bailey Welch dished out nine assists.

With Coffey still nursing an injury, Nikki Nester and Ashley Hobbs have handled the scoring duties, with Nester averaging 11.1 ppg on the year and Hobbs right behind at 10.8 ppg.

Hobbs is also pulling down a team-high 6.5 rpg as the Storm have lifted their team rebounding to 38.9 rpg.

Welch and Nester as essentially neck-and-neck in assists, with Welch dishing out 4.5 assists per game, while Nester adds 4.4 apg.

The Reddies come into the contest with an 11-8 record and a 4-5 mark in league play, and are in the midst of a five-game losing skid, and are 1-5 since the teams met last.

Cheree Freeman leads the team in scoring at 13.4 ppg, including the 24 point effort she had against SE the first time the teams played. Crystal Harrison is the team’s only other double-digit scorer at 10.2 per outing.

Destiny Smith leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per outing, while Shillallie Jones and Jill Temples are dishing out 43 and 40 assists on the year, respectively.
