BOYS - Class 2A Regionals

Caddo 64, Snyder 40

LONE GROVE - The Bruins bounced back on Friday with a 64-40 win over the Snyder Cyclones.

Kolby Johnson scored 21, Ty Miller hit five three-pointers on his way to 17, and Konar Hall added 15 for Caddo. Ryan Minyard had four, Peyton Joines collected several rebounds and added three free throws, Rylan Miller and Tanner Grace scored two each.

Caddo led 19-11 after one quarter, but slipped in the second as Snyder outscored the Bruins 16-12. Caddo’s lead was 31-27 at the break.

“We broke dow some out of our zone and we had to switch defenses,” Caddo Coach Kris Hall said, “We had to go man-to-man and that made the difference. Our shot selection was better today, and our bench played big.

“Ryan Minyard played good defense and blocked out well,” Hall said. “It’s good to have a little depth.”

Snyder got within three points early in the third, but Miller and Johnson got hot behind the arc and helped the Bruins close the quarter on a 12-1 run to take a 47-36 lead. Caddo outscored the Cyclones 17-4 in the fourth.

BOYS - Class 2A Regionals

Walters 68, Silo 43

LONE GROVE - The Silo Rebels bowed out of the 2012 playoffs with a 25-point loss to Walters in the regional round on Friday.

The Blue Devils hit three from downtown in the first two minutes on their way to a 24-8 first quarter advantage. Silo battled back in the second quarter, helped by 10 points from Leonard Sandler, and cut the Walters lead to 32-22 at the half. Silo outscored Walters 14-8 in the quarter.

Midway through the third, the Rebels got within six points before Walters rattled off 17 unanswered points to take control. Landon Weaver and Andrew Bolin hit fourth quarter threes for the Rebels, but the hole was too deep.

“We’re young, and these guys have a bright future,” Silo Coach Dax Simon said after the game. “They really came together the last month of the season. You hate to see any season come to an end, but we know we’ll pick it up from here.”

Sandler finished with 18 to lead the Rebels. Kendall Shives scored 11, Andrew Bolin had seven, Weaver had three, Lance House and Hunter Jackson scored two each.

GIRLS - Class 2A Regionals

Silo 63, Carnegie 52

LONE GROVE - Beth Loudermilk erupted for 28 points in Friday’s regional playoff victory over Carnegie at the Gary Scott Center in Lone Grove.

The Lady Rebels showed a lot of determination, rattling off a 19-8 run after trailing 16-7 in the first quarter. Silo outscored Carnegie 37-28 in the second half, and also shot 23-of-29 from the free throw line.

“We came out and got down, Carnegie shot the ball well in the first quarter,” said Coach Dax Simon, “But we were able to put some defensive pressure on them and it three (Carnegie) off. It was a good character win for the girls. Beth played well, but anytime you have a kid put up numbers like that, al the other kids around her are playing well, doing little things to make that happen.”

Indeed, Lodermilk was joined by two other Lady Rebels in double figure scoring: Kenslie Stanley added 14 points to her high totals on rebounds and assists, and Torrie Wright scored 10 points. Brittney Burns nearly got there with nine points (critical in an 11-point win), and Rachel Grider added two.

GIRLS - Class 2A Regionals

Walters 72, Caddo 63

LONE GROVE - The Lady Bruins finished their season on Friday with a tough loss to Walters in the regional round of the playoffs.

Caddo fell behind early 17-4, as turnovers led to some deep three point shots for the Blue Devils. Walters took a 22-13 lead after one quarter.

The Caddo defense adjusted and Lady Bruin shooting was able to get them within a point before Walters rattled off six unanswered points. Their halftime lead was 38-30.

Tobi MIller scored Caddo’s first seven points of the second half, and the Lady Bruins hit 10 three pointers in the game, including one at the end of each quarter for Shelby Dellinger through the third. But Walters was just a little quicker on steals and passing, and outscored Caddo 18-15 in the third to take an 11-point lead.

Ricki Braziell had some late game heroics for Caddo with strong drives to the bucket, rebounding and quick passing. Her effort plus a three from Lou Pilkilton got Caddo within six points at the three minute mark (62-56).

Miller went to the basket strong and her free throw got the Lady Bruins within five, before Walters got into the bonus and started building their lead from the line.

“We turned the ball over too many times,” said Caddo Coach Vernon Johnson,”We battled back, and they showed a lot of guts. We got down early in the season, but by the playoffs, they were starting to figure it out. I expect we’ll be 10 times better next year.”

Miller scored 23 for the Lady Bruins, Dellinger 16, Allison Joines nine on a trio of threes, Braziell eight, Pilkilton five, and Caroline Joines two.
