The Durant Lions had a rough time of it Friday night at Del City in the their first round of the playoffs. The Del City Eagles defeated the Lions 72-19 and ended the season for Durant.

The Eagles applied defensive pressure early and often and that resulted in turnovers and missed shots for Durant. The

The Eagles jumped out early with two quick buckets, but the Lions’ Zac Cater answered back when he fought through the Eagles mid-court trap and dash through the paint for two points. Then the Eagles went on a 9-0 run to grab a 13-2 lead. Then Cater fired up a mid-range jumper to break the run, Tyler Hendley made both of his free throws and Cole Hughes hit a jumper for a Lions’ 6-0 run to end the period. The Lions trailed 13-8.

The trouble began in the second period for the Lions.

In the second period everything seemed to break down for the Lions as they would only score five points in the quarter. The defensive pressure by the Eagles created turnovers and bad passes by the Lions and the Eagles capitalized on every opportunity. The Eagles expanded their lead to 34-13 heading into half time. The Lions’ Cater had two points and Alec McAtee had three points.

The Lions owes continued into the third period as they were outscored 17-6. The Eagles led 51-19. Cater had two points and Derick Penz got into the mix with four points.

In the final frame of the game, the Lions offense was shut down and didn’t score a point as the Eagles rolled on for win, 72-19.
