A fire destroyed a wood shop building this morning at Colbert Schools and the State Fire Marshal’s Office will be investigating the cause of the blaze.

Colbert Schools Superintendent Jarvis Dobbs said it started at approximately 8:30 and that the building was a total loss. No one was inside the building.

The shop building is not connected to the school building and it is located behind the old gym.

“The wood shop building was totally destroyed and the fire traveled into the end of the next building that had a drafting class and a weight room,” Dobbs said. “There was not anybody in any of those classes.”

Dobbs, who said the building was still smoldering early this afternoon, was not certain of the amount of damage to the weight room and drafting class. The fire marshal was expected to arrive this afternoon to investigate the cause of the fire.
