It is time again to register yourself or your team for the Landmark Bank Michael “Monk” Metheny Memorial Golf Tournament benefiting the Southeastern Oklahoma State University golf team which set for Saturday, April 28, at Silverado Golf Course in Durant, Okla.
Michael, the son of Pat and Southeastern baseball coach Mike Metheny, was only 22 at the time of his death following an automobile accident near Madill in July of 1994. He graduated from Durant High School in 1990 and was a senior at Southeastern. He would have earned his degree in criminal justice in December of that year.
He had undergone more than 20 major surgeries and had received a kidney from his mother. Overcoming most of his medical limitations, Michael lived to compete and found his niche on the golf course.
He was a member of the Southeastern golf team and a well-known figure around Southeastern sports as he followed his dad’s baseball team at home and on the road.
The tournament is a 4-person scramble format and entry fee is $100 per player. The entry fee includes green fee, cart, coffee and donuts, and lunch.
Registration is now open by contacting Southeastern golf coach Don Hudson at 580-745-2451 or via email (dhudson@se.edu). Registration is also available the day of the event, beginning at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start slated for 9 a.m.
Mulligans will be available at $10 each with a limit of two. First tee sponsorships are $50 each.
