Police investigate burglaries

An apartment was burglarized while the tenants were in jail, Durant Police said.

Officer Andrew Piper was dispatched Sunday to an apartment in the 1300 block of North Sixth Avenue. Jeanna Wood and John Brewer said they had been arrested at 11 p.m. Saturday evening for public intoxication, and upon returning to the apartment at 6:30 the following morning, they discovered that a Sanyo flat-screen television, Magnavox DVD player, a cellular phone and a leather purse were stolen for a lose of $750.

Officer Shane Harkey has investigated two automobile burglaries. On Monday, Brittany Wingfield said her purse had been stolen out of her vehicle in the 1000 block of North Second Avenue. According to the report, Wingfield said she left her purse on the passenger-side floorboard, and that she forget to lock her vehicle.

Sunday, Shelli Simpson told Officer Harkey that an iPhone and Blackberry curve were stolen out of her Camaro parked in the 1300 block of North Fifth Avenue. The victim, who estimated her loss at $600, said she left both windows on the vehicle down.
