DURANT — The Bryan County burn ban that has been in effect since November due to dry conditions is being lifted.

According to a letter from the Bryan County Fire Chiefs Association, 10 county fire chiefs requested that it be lifted.

Under state law, commissioners may declare a burn ban for seven days after receiving requests from area fire chiefs. Commissioners had been renewing it on a weekly basis.

The ban expires today due to it not being renewed. Despite the moisture from the winter storm, a grass fire erupted at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday south of Caddo on Miller Road. Caddo firefighters were dispatched at 1:02 and Durant firefighters went to assist at 1:31.

Durant firefighters left the scene at 3 p.m.
