The Durant Middle School Choir has just returned from its annual trip to Branson, MO. Three choirs performed and competed in Branson.

The DMS Show Choir performed the pre-show entertainment for The Haygoods, one of Branson’s hottest shows on Thursday night, May 3 and the DMS Mixed Choir and Girls Choir performed the pre-show for The Cat’s Pajamas on May 4. Both performances were well received by audiences and the professional performers.

While in Branson, the three choirs also competed at Choice Music Event’s Festival of the Ozarks. The Show Choir received an Excellent rating from the judges with Hannah Robinson and Paxton Ezell being recognized as Outstanding Performers. The Girls Choir received a Superior rating from the judges and was awarded the Outstanding in class award over all other Girls choirs in their classification.

The Mixed Choir also received a Superior rating and the judges spoke specifically about their blend and expression. Ari Cash was recognized as an Outstanding Musician in this group.

The Mixed Choir was also awarded the Outstanding in Class award over all other Mixed Choirs in their classification. And finally, at this competition one choir is selected out of all middle/junior high choirs to be an Overall Outstanding Choir, no matter their classification or choir type.

The DMS Mixed Choir was awarded this Overall Outstanding Choir award. Durant Middle School is proud of the accomplishments of this choir in Branson and all year long.

The DMS Girls choir was awarded OSSAA’s Outstanding Achievement Award in March for their Superior ratings in both concert and sight-reading at the District 11 Choir Contest. The Durant Middle School choirs are under the direction of Aprill Raines.

For those who would like to hear these choirs, they will be presenting their Spring Pop Concert next Friday, May 18, at 6:00 p.m. in the DMS Auditorium.
