Sybil Lee (Hobbs) Carter passed away peacefully at her home in Calera, Oklahoma on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the age of 91 years 2 months and 30 days. She was born on Friday, February 18, 1921 in Springtown, Texas to Barnie L. and Cora B. (Reynolds) Hobbs. Sybil Hobbs married A.L. (Pete) Carter in Calera, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 28, 1939.

Sybil was a woman who committed herself to caring for her family. She took pride in staying at home as a full-time mom, and also worked in the family dairy. Sybil was an accomplished artist who expressed herself through painting, painting lessons, needlework and cake decorating. She loved the outdoors and would camp and go fishing often. Sybil was a lifelong, faithful member of the Methodist Church in Calera, Oklahoma and also a member of the Calera Eastern Star. But more than anything else, Sybil loved spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her son, Jerry Carter and wife Linda of Kingsland, Texas; daughter, Judy Nix and husband Erwin of Calera, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Terry Carter and wife Sherral of Cedar Park, Texas, Dean Carter and wife Celia of Houston, Texas, Jeff Carter of Seattle, Washington, Shellie Abel and husband Dan of Kerrville, Texas, Sherrie Varner and husband James of Calera, Oklahoma and Relita Cayton and husband Terry of Calera, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Persons and husband Brad of Austin, Texas, Katy Carter of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Tim Carter of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Travis Carter of Houston, Texas, Paige Carter of Garland, Texas, Coleson, Gunner and Garrett Able of Kerrville, Texas, Blake Barrow of Wylie, Texas, Lindsay Roberts and husband Dustin of Durant, Oklahoma, Emily Valles of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Chad Varner and wife Lauren of Caddo, Oklahoma, Kori Varner of Durant, Oklahoma, Destiny Condor of Durant, Oklahoma and Carter Cayton of Calera, Oklahoma; special sister-in-law, Martha (Hobbs) McHale of Waurika, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, Barnie and Cora Hobbs; husband, A.L.(Pete) Carter; brother, George E. Hobbs; grandson, Shane Barrow.

Family Hour will be from 6-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Holmes -Coffey - Murray Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 21, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Calera, Oklahoma with Donnie Hyde officiating. Interment will follow at the Rosehill Cemetery in Calera. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Carter, Dean Carter, James Varner, Terry Cayton, Dustin Roberts, and Chad Varner. Honorary pallbearers will be Oran Chappell, Layne Edwards, Bob Rogers, Carter Cayton and Michael Chappell.
