Two killed in crashes in Bryan and Coal counties

A Caddo man died after crashing his pickup on Highway 78 north of Achille, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Gary Dewayne Bledsoe, 26, was dead at the scene of the 4:20 a.m. crash Sunday. According to the patrol, Bledsoe was driving his pickup northbound when the vehicle departed the roadway to the left, struck a culvert, and rolled three-quarter times before landing on its passenger side.

Driving under the influence was cited in Trooper Colby Murray’s report as the cause of the crash. The Colbert Fire Department and EMS assisted at the scene.

In other crashes, Garland Douglas Seay, 47, Coalgate, was killed after crashing his pickup at noon Monday on Highway 75 northwest of Coalgate, according to the patrol.

The patrol said Seay was driving his pickup southbound when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. According to Trooper John Ivey’s report, DUI was the cause of the crash.

In other news, Durant firefighters put out a car fire late Friday afternoon at South 15th Avenue and Arkansas Street. According to the fire department, a fire started in the engine compartment of a 1996 Ford Mustang. Firefighters put out the fire in three minutes.

A squirrel started a grass fire Saturday afternoon at Wilson Street and Westside Drive. According to the fire department, a squirrel caused a power line to short out and start a grass fire. The fire scorched a 20 by 20 feet area before being put out by firefighters.
