Durant police are looking for a suspect who stole a woman’s purse at a local hotel room.

Patrolman Carter Mathews responded to the Magnuson Hotel on South Ninth Avenue to investigate a robbery. Clarissa Ordonez and Crystal Velasquez told Mathews they met an African American man at the Choctaw Casino.

The report stated that the man gave them a ride to the hotel and that once in their room, he grabbed Ordonez’s purse and ran out of the room. The women said they tried to get the purse back and that they were dragged down the hall until he ran out the back door.

The purse, valued at $300, contained approximately $750 cash, the report stated. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Durant Crime Tip line at 924-8845.

In other crimes, Kelly Don Beshirs, 29, Colbert, has been charged with two counts of burglary of an automobile and one count of leaving the scene of an injury accident. He came under investigation after Durant Police responded to a hit-and-run crash. Police found an abandoned vehicle in the 5200 block of Kimberly Road, and while inventorying it, officers found items believed to have been stolen from vehicles and homes in the area.

According to police, not all victims have been identified, and anyone who was a burglary victim in that area should call Detective Michael Shufeldt at 924-8589 or 924-3737. Beshirs was later arrested and charged with the crimes.

In other news, Durant firefighters were dispatched at 7:32 p.m. Wednesday to the 1400 block of West Cedar Street after a vehicle rolled into a gas meter and caused a gas leak. Firefighters stood by at the scene until Oklahoma Natural Gas arrived to repair the damage.
