Two people arrested by Calera Police have been charged with drug trafficking.

Charged Tuesday with trafficking in MDMA were Michael Anthony-Ivan Newell, 27, Durant, and Tavarisd Marquis-Dewey Pye, 21, Leonard, Texas.

They were arrested Monday after a traffic stop by Calera Police. According to court papers, they possessed more than 100 tablets of MDMA, commonly called “ecstasy.”

In other crimes, Durant Police have investigated two burglaries during the past few days. Monday, James and Mary Shields told Officer Logan Prather that their home in the 1900 block of West Evergreen Street had been burglarized. According to the report, they left town Saturday and upon returning Monday, they discovered the front door had been damaged. A small amount of cash was taken from the home.

In other burglaries, Officer Jason Colvard was dispatched late Saturday evening to the 700 block of Stonebrook Circle to investigate an automobile burglary. When Colvard arrived, Amanda Kahlden said someone had been banging on her front door and bedroom window, and she saw a man run northbound between her house and a neighbor’s home. When she went outside, she discovered someone had gone through her vehicle.

Anyone with information on these crimes is encouraged to call the Durant Crime Tip line at 924-8845.
