JD Fanning of Kenefic/Caddo, Oklahoma passed away at this home on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the age of 92 years 7 months and 19 days. He was born on Friday, October 17, 1919, in Cade, Oklahoma to Robert Vester and Sarah (Smith) Fanning. J.D. was married to the love of his life Faye (Reese) Fanning for 69 years. They were married in Colbert, Oklahoma on Friday, March 12, 1943.

JD was a man who was committed to making a difference in his home town of Kenefic/Caddo, Oklahoma. He was a faithful attendant of the Methodist Church in Caddo. He was baptized at home on November 15, 2009 by Rev. Gene Teel. J.D. held numerous offices in the Caddo Round-Up Club and also served on the Caddo School Board. He owned and operated the store in Kenefic at the crossroad of Hwys 22 & 48. While employed by the Blackburn Propane Service, he made many lasting friendships. J.D. had many interests like reading, watching basketball, attending rodeos, but most of all he loved being with his family. JD enlisted in the US Air Force in 1942, Perrin Field Air Force Base in Sherman, Texas. He recieved an honorable discharge from Barksdale Field in Louisiana in 1945 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Mr. Fanning is survived by his daughters, Sue Birdsong and husband Gary of Kenefic, Oklahoma; Glenda Haddock and husband Russell of Old Philadelphia, Oklahoma; and Trudy Lucus and husband Jim of Dorchester, Texas; granddaughters, Cindy Birdsong of Kenefic, Oklahoma; Jana Haddock of Durant, Oklahoma, Lindee Taylor of Celina, Texas and Krista Lucus of Lubbock, Texas; grandson, Kurt Haddock of Rogers, Arkansas; great-granddaughters, Jessica Birdsong of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Kayla Haddock of Rogers, Arkansas; Chanlyr Taylor of Celina, Texas; and Morgan Taylor of Sherman, Texas; great-grandsons, Tyler Haddock of Frisco, Texas; Jex Taylor of Celina, Texas; and Jackson Haddock of Rogers, Arkansas; nephew, John Roper Jr. of Gallup, New Mexico; caregiver and special friend Angie Farrell of Old Philadelphia, Oklahoma. Mr. Fanning was preceded in death by his parents, R.V. and Sarah Fanning, wife of 69 years Faye Fanning and sister, Geneva Fanning Roper.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations can be made to the Caddo Civic and Cemetery Association.

Family Hour will be from 6-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Methodist Church in Caddo with Rev. Jerry Combrink, Rev. Dewey Shaffer and Jeremy Parham officiating.

Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Caddo. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Birdsong, Russell Haddock, Jim Lucus, Kurt Haddock, Jason Taylor and Tyler Haddock.
