This summer, help your children beat the summer heat and explore their creativity at the same time. The Durant Art Center, in conjunction with Texoma Arts Association, will be hosting a Youth Summer Art Series. The event will take place on the following Fridays: June 15, June 29, July 6, July 13 and July 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The event is open to all school age children; children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $50 for all five sessions and individual sessions are $15 per session. Students will be required to provide some supplies.

During the series, students will be exploring different mediums of both 2D and 3D dimensional art. The first week, children will begin with color and color mixing to achieve various effects on their art pieces. They will then move into looking at differences achieved by using color that has transparency versus color that is opaque. Students will create a minimum of two two-dimensional painting projects, a mixed media project and at least one three dimensional project. The last project will be a ringed binder that may become either an art journal or portfolio for each student.

For more information or to register, call (580) 924-1746 or (903) 816-0081 or visit the Durant Art Center at 116 South 9th in Durant.
