Reader says Congress is hindering Obama

In this election year, we hear a lot about how President Obama hasn’t done anything to improve the economy or to furnish jobs for the millions of unemployed workers.

Folks need to remember two simple facts: by our Constitution, the president cannot make laws and by our Constitution, only Congress can make laws. The president can ask Congress for laws to improve the job picture, but if Congress refuses to do so, it does not get done. This is Congress’ fault, not the president’s.

As soon as Obama was elected president, the Republican members of Congress took as their top priority “to make this president fail.” It was no secret. They boasted that this was what they intended to do. Everything the president tries to do, they vote against it. Then they say to the voters: “See! Obama has had three years as a president, and the economy is still bad and jobs are still scarce!” We have heard Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell and John Boehner say this countless times.

And they themselves are the ones who have tied the president’s hands. I guess they are counting on the voters not being smart enough to figure out what they are doing. They are perfectly willing to see Americans suffer, just so they can benefit their political party. So what we need to do is get rid of the Republican senators and representatives who are playing this cynical game with the voters. Throw the rascals out and elect a Democratic Congress which will cooperate with the White House. These Republicans are deliberately hurting us all. I say it again – throw the rascals out!
