Russell D. “R.D.” Parker of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life in Denison, Texas on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the age of 84 years 10 months and 24 days. He was born on Wednesday, July 28, 1927 in Chillicothe, Texas to Jack and Minnie (Hardage) Parker. R.D. married Marie Thomas in Denison, Texas on Tuesday, March 8, 1949.

R.D. was a man who loved people and found many ways to care for others. He was involved in several community support organizations including Disaster Relief, Families Feeding Families and Meals on Wheels. He joined the United States Army and served from 1945 to 1947. R.D. worked for O G & E for 33 years. R.D. had a personality that people were drawn to, and he always made others smile or laugh. He enjoyed being outdoors and would camp and fish whenever he could. But more than anything else R.D. loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; daughters, Carla Rainbolt and husband Ken of Durant, Oklahoma and Kay Frederick and husband Bob of Atoka, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Adrienne Sommerfeldt of Richardson, Texas, Sara Kellam and husband Patrick of Norman, Oklahoma, Amanda Rainbolt of Denison, Texas, and Le Ann Rainbolt-Jones and husband Chris of Durant, Oklahoma; grandsons, Ryan Samuel and wife Christy of Wylie, Texas, and Jeff Frederick of Purcell, Oklahoma; sisters, Clora Hudman of Paradise, California, Betty Seilhan and husband John of York, Nebraska and Georgia Whitworth and husband Aaron of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; brothers, Floyd Parker and wife Bert of Chandler, Arizona and Danny Parker of Lubbock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Carson, Tre’, Riley, Max and Madilyn.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Minnie Parker; sisters, Sylvia Labell and Lucille O’Briant; brothers, Jay, Jackie and Monroe Parker.

Family Hour will be from 7-8:00 P.M. Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Durant with Rev. Ark Noel officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Durant. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Samuel, Jeff Frederick, Patrick Kellam, Nickolas Tschoepe, Chris Jones and Larry Snider.
