Lady Lions’ Weslina Coxsey and Taryn Ritter were honored recently when both were selected to play in the 5A All State soccer game for the West team, and won 2-1. Lady Lions head coach Jeff Garrett said both players played very well in the game.

As both girls graduate and head off to college, it will leave big shoes for the Lady Lions to fill for the next season. It’s not just the scoring that coach Garrett said that will be missed, but the things that can’t be coached; like leadership and passion for the game.

“I have coached these girls for the last two years. They both are great role models and team leaders. Part of that came from their previous coaches Ron Norman and Glenn Price,” said Garrett, “These girls have a passion for the game and always gave 100% on in games and in practice. These two will be hard to replace. You can’t coach leadership like these girls have. They are definitely special young ladies. I know the team, as well as the coaching staff, will miss them both.” said Garrett.

Coxsey is a two time All District selection and was a unanimous All State selection for the 5A West team. She is a two time Lion Heart Award winner and team captain. She has been a three-year letterman in varsity soccer and will be playing soccer for Bacone College in Muskogee.

Ritter is a three-time All District player and was also a unanimous All State selection for the 5A West soccer team. She has been a four-year letterman on the varsity team as well as a four-year starter. She is known around the state as one of the most difficult players to guard. She will be entering in the nursing program at SOSU in the fall.
