Crash kills Achille man

An Achille man died Saturday evening a rollover crash the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said was alcohol related.

Tommy Nicholas, 50, was taken by Colbert EMS to Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to OHP, Nicholas was driving a four-door Mercury at 7:49 p.m. eastbound on River Road west of Chickasaw Road when drove off the roadway to the left struck an embankment, and rolled the car one-half time until it landed on its top.

The report stated Nicholas was driving at a speed that was greater than reasonable and proper. According to Trooper Colby Murray’s report, Nicholas had an odor of alcohol, and the crash was alcohol related. He was wearing a seat belt.

Troopers B.J. Keeling and Kyle Ince assisted in the investigation.

In other accidents, the north and southbound lanes of Highway 69-75 at the Red River Bridge were closed at 12:15 this morning due to a semi collision, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Traffic was diverted to Highway 91 over the Denison Dam until the highway reopened at 3:23 this morning. Officer Justin Foster of the Colbert Police Department said two semi trucks were traveling on the northbound part of the highway when one semi rear-ended the other.One of the drivers was air-flighted from the scene but is now in stable condition and the other driver was transported to Texoma Medical Center with minor injuries. Foster said one lane of the highway is still closed and will not be completely open until 4 or 5 this evening.
