One seat for the Colbert Board of Trustees is vacant and anyone interested in being appointed should contact Colbert Town Hall.

Ward No. 5 has been vacant since December, according to Colbert City Clerk Christy Fitzgerald.

“Anyone who wants to represent that ward can be put on a (council) agenda and be appointed to represent that ward,” Fitzgerald said.

Also, no one filed for Ward No. 3 during the filing period held last week by the Bryan County Election Board for municipal elections to be held April 7.

That seat is currently held by James Coble, who did not seek reelection.

Two other seats, Ward No. 2, held by Lewis Presley, and Ward No. 4, held by Roxanne Reed, were up for reelection, but no one else filed, so there will not be an election.

Not just "anyone" can sign up, no matter how much they would like to serve the town. An arcane city charter vastly limits who may serve the town, and considering the size of said town; those who would serve are limited too. The powers that be don't want new blood...or help for that matter. Enough said.
