Max Riffe of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life in Denison, Texas on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the age of 76 years and 3 days. He was born on Thursday, June 25, 1936 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Dee and Minnie (St John) Riffe. Max married Pat Miller in Durant, Oklahoma on Sunday, June 3, 1956.
Max was a member of the Fomby Presbyterian Church in Ashdown, Arkansas. He served as a Naval Corpsman from March 21, 1956 thru October 21, 1957. He was an employee for the United States Corps of Engineers for 37 and a half years and retired on September 30, 1994. Max enjoyed watching OU sports and spending time at McDonald’s with his coffee buddies every morning. But more than anything else, Max loved and enjoyed his family.
Mr. Riffe is survived by his wife, Pat Riffe; daughter, Jan Davenport and husband David of Naperville, Illinois; son, Mark Riffe and wife Cindy of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Jack Riffe of Sulphur, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Leslie Davenport of Bloomington, Illinois, Josh and Savannah Riffe of Durant, Oklahoma; great-grandson, James Davenport of Bloomington, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Miller and wife Judy Ann of Sperry, Oklahoma; sisters and brother-in-laws, Doris Hewitt and husband Dink of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Judy Betz and husband Gary of Republic, Missouri and Diane Smith and husband Buddy of Floresville, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Riffe was preceded in death by his parents, Dee and Minnie Riffe; brothers, Bill, W.T. and Lester Lucas; sister, Ona Lucas.
Family hour will be 7-8:00 P.M. Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Holmes Coffey Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma with Rev. Jackie Lucas officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Max’s McDonald’s coffee club.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to the Reba McEntire Rehabilitation Center at 1200 Reba McEntire Lane, Denison, TX 75020.
