CARTWRIGHT - One person was pulled from the water of Red River near the Denison Dam and authorities were still looking for another man at press time late Saturday afternoon.

The Bryan County Communications Center received a call at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday that a man was in the water about 50 yards from the spillway and was possibly drowning.

The flood gates were open, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was contacted to shut down the generators. Approximately 3:30, it was reported that two men were in the water struggling to swim to shore. Firefighters threw them a rope and one man was pulled to shore.

The other man went back under and had not been found at press time Saturday.

Bryan County EMS, Bryan County Sheriff’s Office, Denison (Texas) Fire Department, and volunteers from Calera, Cartwright and Colbert fire departments responded to the scene. Oklahoma Highway Patrol also was dispatched to investigate the incident.
