A day-long tournament of the popular role-playing game “WarHammer” was held Saturday at Bryan County Fairgrounds, to help raise funds for ongoing medical expenses for a six-year-old Texas girl.

The game itself was set up across several tables in the community room, with volunteers also selling food, baked goods, and holding raffles and auctions for Rylie Ammons, 6, of Wichita falls, Texas.

Ammons, who has relatives in the Sherman, Durant and Colbert areas, underwent a liver transplant in April after she contracted adenovirus. She now must take up to 20 medications a day, and some of them will be administered for the rest of her life.

“The first year after the transplant is the most important,” reads a flyer posted by her family. “The adenovirus is still in her system, but with a new functioning liver, she has a fighting chance.”

Family members in the area operate the Secret Door shop in Sherman’s Midway Mall, where fans of WarHammer, Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings and other games can gather. They chose Durant as the first of what could be several fund-raisers to help “Rally for Rylie.”
