Several Bryan County offices completed the move to the old Robert L. Williams Library, now known as the Bryan County Courthouse Annex.

Following months of renovation, the county assessor’s office, county clerk’s office county treasurer’s office completed the move last week across the street to 323 W. Beech St.

The county commissioner’s office and meeting room is also located in the renovated facility.p>

Treasurer Nancy Conner said her office began moving Monday, and the next day it was open again, although they did not have computer access until late in the afternoon. Internet service was not operational until Friday.

“So far, everything has been going pretty good,” Conner said. “We just have to get used to being in a different place and a new phone system.”

The new phone system, according to Conner, will allow calls to be transferred to different county offices in the building, something they could not do in the courthouse.

“Our offices are so much lighter and brighter, it’s just really nice, and we’re very happy,” Conner said.

County Clerk Tammy Reynolds said her office did not end up closing at all for the move. The office began moving Tuesday.

“Everything is in and was set up yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, she said. “We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, but anybody is welcome to come by and see our new offices. We’re excited about this.”

Some of the changes in the office are more spaces between the rolls of records and also two sit-down work stations with computers that the public can use.

“We’re excited about all of the new changes, and think it will be a lot better for the public,” Reynolds said.

County Assessor Glendel Rushing has served 47-and-a-half years as assessor, and until last week, had occupied the same office in the courthouse for 35 years.

His office was closed Wednesday, and back open for business Thursday.

“Our phone system is working good … we got everything over, and got it in place, and we’re working,” Rushing said.

Renovation will continue at the courthouse. Court Clerk Sandy Stroud’s office will move from the third floor to the second floor to make room for a new courtroom, and Election Board Secretary Linda Fahrendorf’s offices will move into the first floor of the courthouse. Work is also ongoing on the expansion of the county jail.

The county received the building at no cost from the city of Durant after completion of the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center and Library. According to Conner, funding for the renovation came from the sale of the old health department building on Waco Street, and also county general funds that had been budgeted for the project.

The public is invited to come by and visit all of the new offices.
