Two teens were injured, one seriously, when the pickup they were in went off the roadway and overturned, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Cody R. Shelton, 16, Mead, was flown by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas where he is in serious condition with back and internal trunk injuries. A passenger, Stormy L. Waters, 14, Achille, was taken to the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. She was listed in good condition at the time of the OHP report.

According to the patrol, Shelton was driving his pickup at 8:55 p.m. northbound on a county road four miles west of Durant when he lost control on a “washboard” roadway. His truck left the road to the right, struck an embankment and overturned one-half time.

Unsafe speed was the cause of the crash, according to Trooper Colby Murray’s report, and neither occupant wore seat belts.
