Two people have been arrested and charged for the burglary of monument company in Durant.

Charged Thursday with second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools were Brent Eugene Walker, 38, and Sheila Lynn Odum, 29, both of Durant.

Walker and Odum were arrested Wednesday, following a Durant Police investigation into the burglary of Morris Monuments on Cemetery Road.

According to an affidavit by Officer Travis Dill, James Morris, the business owner, said his security company notified him that a motion detector had been triggered. A couple later identified as Walker and Odum had been seen near the business, and video surveillance showed them looking around behind the building.

After obtaining a description of the suspects, Dill provided the information to Patrol Capt. Andy Navid, who found Walker and Odum walking in the 700 block of South Third Avenue, the affidavit states.

They were brought back to the business for identification, and according to the affidavit, Odum told Lt. Brock Jones that Walker entered the business while she served as the “lookout.” Both possessed tools that could be used to commit burglary, according to police.

Walker denied any involvement in the crime.

In other crimes, a manhunt was initiated in the Cartwright area Thursday evening and was continuing this morning after a chase began in Grayson County, Texas. According to authorities, one person was arrested and another fled on foot after crossing the Denison Dam.

In other police pursuits, James Lee Lashley, 27, Denison, Texas, was charged Thursday with eluding a police officer. According to court records, Lashley attempted to elude Durant Police Officer Jesse Petty on Tuesday at North Washington Avenue and Folsom Road. He was also charged with driving without a license.
