A man was stabbed in the abdomen by his girlfriend on Friday, according to Durant Police.

The victim, who is 24 years old, was flown to Plano Medical Center, Plano, Texas, early that afternoon, and his girlfriend was arrested for suspicion of domestic violence and obstructing police by providing false information on what happened.

Authorities first responded to the man’s residence on North Fifth Avenue, but then went to the alley behind the Le Chateau Apartments in the 800 block of North Second Avenue after being told that the man ran home after being stabbed in the alley. Police cordoned off the area with crime-scene tape while investigating.

According to police, the girlfriend said her boyfriend was jumped by two men while they were walking in the alley after one man said, “that’s him.” They jumped on him, beat him, and one man stabbed him in the abdomen, according to statements given to police by the man’s girlfriend.

Durant Police Lt. Chris Marcy said the initial story was fabricated by the girlfriend, and that actually, she had stabbed him earlier in the day during a domestic dispute.

The woman was booked into jail and the district attorney’s office will be reviewing the report on Monday to determine charges. The man’s condition was not known at press time, although his injuries were not reported to be life threatening.

In other crimes, Bryan County Sheriff’s Deputy John Walker investigated a burglary last week on Lemonhill Road, west of Chickasaw Road, near Calera. Mathew Bledsoe said he discovered a lock was missing from a door on an old concession stand he uses as a storage building. Several items, including a high-speed boat and a Japanese pachinko gaming machine, had been stolen.

Also last week, Brandon Wilson told Deputy Walker that his 1996 Chevrolet extended-cab pickup had been stolen from a person’s yard in the 100 block of Old Highway 70 near Durant. According to the report, the pickup had been inoperable for several weeks. There are no suspects.
