Jewel Inez Patterson, 94, of El Cajon, CA, passed away peacefully at home on July 25, 2012. She was born near Calera, OK, on November 6, 1917. Inez went to Central High School. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma at Norman in 1939 with a bachelor’s in English, and in 1940 with a Masters in Secondary Education. She married Kenneth F. Patterson on June 6, 1943 and moved to southern California. Inez and Kenneth loved to travel, taking trips to France, England, Austria, India and even the Soviet Union during the Cold War just after it opened to tourists. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, often taking them on trips back to Oklahoma to visit relatives. Church was a big part of Inez’s life. She was a founding member of Santee Christian Church, in Santee, CA. Inez is survived by her three children, Kenneth F. Patterson, Jr., Evelyn Torres, and Louise Wilson, four grandchildren, Dianne McCormick, Matthew Wilson, Laura Ahart, and Kristina Ketchel, and four great-grandchildren, Jacob McCormick, Camille Ahart, Natalie Ahart, and Owen Ketchel. Funeral Services for Jewel Patterson will be held 10 am Friday morning August 3, 2012 in the Calera Baptist Church with Reverend Charles Loyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera. Donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
