You now have 15 days to purchase tickets to the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Athletics Hall of Fame.

The four inductees for 2012 feature strength, speed and finesse. You know them as Natalie Brown-Cooksey, Charles Gulley, Kent Samuel and Cary Ammons.

Natalie helped the Savagettes to a pair of 20-win seasons. Charles rewrote the record book in track and had some long-distance scoring plays in football, Kent was Southeastern’s first All-Conference golfer and Cary turned the baseball record book into his personal keepsake.

The Hall of Fame banquet will start at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, August 25, in the Visual and Performing Arts Center. A reception for the inductees will begin at 4:30.

Tickets are priced at $20. To purchase tickets or for further information, phone the athletics office at 580-745-2250.

LIKE THE WEATHER, the sports scene is heating up at Southeastern.

If it’s 105 in the shade and there’s no shade, it must be time for football. And it is.

A pair of new coaches will join the staff this season. Josh Eargle is the new defensive coordinator and Matt Karleskint will coach wide receivers.

Southeastern’s Physical Year has started with 110 hopefuls checking in for football. Walk-ons are due in Monday on the first day of school and that should run the total to approximately 130.

That’s a bunch of big bodies banging around and it’s also a stressful time for Scott Willman’s training staff. Willman is Southeastern’s head trainer and James Dudley is his assistant. This year, there are three graduate assistants and five student assistants.

Willman said, “This is the biggest staff we’ve ever had and it will take every one of us going full speed just to keep up with the demand when we get on the practice field.”

As always, extreme heat presents major problems for football programs across the country and Southeastern strives to be at the top of the list when it comes to being careful.

Fans will have a chance for a preview look at the 2012 Savage Storm at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and again at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. The early start should help beat the heat.

An intrasquad scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, August 18, and it will kick off at 8:15 in the morning.

The final intrasquad scrimmage is set for 6:15 p.m. Thursday, August 23.

After that, its kickoff time for 2012 when coach Ray Richards’ club hits the road to open the season against Texas A&M-Commerce at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 1.

Make a note: Southeastern has only four home games on the 10-game schedule for 2012.

Southern Arkansas will bring its Muleriders to Paul Laird Field at 6 p.m. on September 15 and the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist come to town for a 2 p.m. Homecoming matchup on September 29.

The Southwestern Bulldogs will be here for a 3 p.m. kickoff on October 20 and the final home game will be against Harding University’s Bisons at 2 p.m. November 3.

And, yes, it’s Bisons with an “s” on the end.

The Savage Storm will travel to Henderson State to meet the Reddies at 6 p.m. September 22. Next up is a trip to Arkansas Tech and the Wonder Boys at 6 p.m. October 6, followed by a visit to Northwestern State’s Rangers at 3 p.m. on October 13.

Southeastern hits the road for a game against Arkansas-Monticello’s Boll Weevils at 3 p.m. October 27 and closes the season with a 2 p.m. kickoff at East Central on November 10.

East Central is close to home. Put that one on your travel schedule right now.

SE VOLLEYBALL serves up the new season with eight road matches before the home opener against Southern Nazarene University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, in Bloomer Sullivan Gym.

Six new players and a head coach with a new name will hit the court August 31-September 1 at the 2012 Rattler-Hilltopper Classic. The Rattlers are from St. Mary’s in San Antonio, Texas, and the Hilltoppers are from St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas.

The Savage Storm will meet Angelo State, Midwestern State, St. Mary’s and Abilene Christian on the first road trip.

The Tarleton State Tournament is next on September 7-8 and Southeastern will take on the host TexAnns, Incarnate Word, Texas A&M-Commerce and William Jewell, Missouri.

Coach Jenn Corkum brought in five new players and changed her name. She and assistant coach Dan King committed marriage during the summer.

There are three new freshman, one redshirt freshman and three transfers.

FALL SCHEDULES for baseball and softball will be available shortly.

The scrimmages don’t count on the record, but the games definitely aren’t played for fun.

This is where newcomers try to unseat returnees and every play in important.

Stay tuned for the scrimmage schedules.

EVERYBODY LOVES a bargain and Southeastern has a whopper for fans.

Tickets to Southeastern sporting events are about as good as deal as you will find anywhere. Fans may purchase full-price tickets for every football game and pay about half what it costs to park at a Dallas Cowboys game.

That’s about half what it costs to park at a Dallas Cowboys game. It really gets expensive if you wish to go into the stadium and watch the game.

General admission prices for SE football are $7. Seniors over 60 and students pay only $4 per ticket. Southeastern students with valid ID and children under six get in free.

Volleyball tickets are $3 each with seniors and students free.

Basketball tickets are $7 for general admission, seniors and students $5, SE students and children free.

Softball admission is $5 with seniors and students $3, SE students and children free.

Southeastern offers the Ultimate Family Pack for 2012-13 at the ultimate bargain price of only $125. It’s a general-admission card that gets the entire family (up to two adults and every child 18 and under) admitted to all regular-season sporting events at one sensational price.

Individual tickets would total about $586, depending on the number of home games. An average schedule would work out to a savings of $461 with the All-Seasons Family Pass.

For fans ordering the Family Pass before the end of August, there are T-shirts for everyone on the family plan, but the offer is valid only while supplies last.

Early purchases not only get in at super low prices, but also get a Southeastern T-shirt to wear to the games.

Order early. T-shirts aren’t free, you know. Except with the Southeastern Ultimate Family Pack.

The Ultimate Family Pack is available only at gosoutheastern.com.
